One of the most famous tourist attractions in Vienna

Made famous by the film Sissi, the castle Schonbrunn in its current form was built along with the surrounding park and subsequently underwent renovations during the reign of Maria Theresa from 1743.
Today the architectural complex, declared World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 1996, it is one of the most beautiful sights of Vienna.

The number 1 tourist attraction in Vienna

Schonbrunn Palace is the building's largest, and with its 2.7 million visitors a year (in 2011) is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Vienna.

The Vienna Tourist Board has presented the official figures for the influx of the public until 2010: in these statistics, from 2003 onwards, Schönbrunn Palace has always ranked highest among the sites with the highest number of visitors to Vienna.

Since the garden is accessed without a ticket, and it is very popular destination for walking or jogging, the number of visitors to the park is actually much higher, making the entire complex one of the most important tourist attractions Vienna.

A walk in the park of the castle is a real journey of discovery

Among the attractions of the park of the castle we find the Labyrinth and Daedalus, ready to welcome young and old. Walking in the garden do not miss also a visit to the Gloriette, on top of the hill, from whose terrace you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the whole of Vienna and Schönbrunn.

There are many more attractions to discover walking in the park, such as the privy garden: no shortage of surprises and the park of Schönbrunn Palace will never cease to amaze.

Discovering Maria Teresa

To visit the castle you can choose between different formulas of course: the Imperial Tour is the tour route short of the rooms of the castle, to discover the history of its inhabitants and stylistic periods of the imperial age. The Grand Tour includes a visit of the precious eighteenth century rooms of Maria Theresa.

The fascinating history of the Habsburgs

Another major attraction of the public is the summer concert of the Vienna Philharmonic held every year in the park of the castle, whose first edition was held in 2008

Besides the large number of spectators who attend live concerts (about 140,000 a year), millions of viewers can follow this great event on the screens.

Who is interested in the castle and its park, is often also a history buff and the Habsburg imperial family.
Those who want to deepen their knowledge of this important chapter in Austrian history, will see the portal online story "The World of the Habsburgs" (in German and English).

To learn the story live, we recommend a visit to the museum for children "Living the Schonbrunn Castle", located in a wing of the building, and also to the Imperial Apartments, the Sisi Museum and the Museum of the Silver Collection , located in the Hofburg Palace in Vienna.

To also be interested in the furniture of Habsburg, we recommend visiting the largest collection of furniture in the world, the Imperial Furniture Collection Furniture Museum Vienna. Here the visitor can admire a collection of nearly 165,000 pieces dating back three centuries.
