Bill Gates sells 5m shares in Microsoft

Software giant's founder has sold 90m shares in 12 months, but still has 500m; cash goes to help his foundation's charitable work

Bill Gates has sold another 5 million of his Microsoft shares, according to a regulatory filing.

Microsoft's multi-billionaire founder has been selling shares in recent months. He is the company's non-executive chairman, having stepped back from running the software firm in 2008 to concentrate on his charity work.

According to the filing, Gates sold 5m shares in Microsoft at an average $27.59 each on July 27. He has sold more than 90m Microsoft shares in the past 12 months.

Gates still has more than 500m shares in the company, but has decreased his shareholding over the last two years to fund his charitable endeavours and to diversify his portfolio.

This week the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation said it was making $42m available for eight universities to develop a toilet that does not need a sewer connection, water or electricity to operate. The ain is to improve people's health in parts of the world where there are few if any flushable toilets.

He is also backing research into improving education. "Every student needs a meaningful credential beyond high school," Gates said in a speech last week. "Higher education is crucial for jobs," he said, calling education an equaliser in society and the answer to getting urban America back to work and fighting poverty.

Forbes magazine estimates Gates's fortune at $56bn. Once the world's richest man, he is now second to Mexican telecoms mogul Carlos Slim after giving away a large chunk of his fortune to his charity.

Gates and long-time friend Warren Buffett have pledged to give away the majority of their fortunes to charity before their deaths, and have convinced a host of other billionaires, including Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, to follow suit.

Kebakaran di Guning Lawu Memakan Korban 8 Pendaki

Kobaran api melumat kawasan hutan di Gunung Lawu siang tadi. Musibah yang dipicu perapian para pendaki gunung itu menewaskan 6 orang dan melukai dua lainnya. "Telah terjadi kebakaran hutan akibat api unggun dari pendaki gunung yang ditinggal dan belum dipadamkan," ujar Kepala Pusat Dara Informasi dan Hubungan Masyarakat Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, dalam keterangan persnya, Ahad, 18 Oktober 2015.

Sutopo menjelaskan, musibah terjadi sekitar pukul 13.40 WIB di petak 73 KPH Gunung Lawu. Musibah itu sempat terdeteksi penduduk beberapa jam sebelumnya yang melihat kepulan asap di sekitar Pos 3 Semoro Sewu. Upaya pemadaman sempat dilakukan petugas gabungan dan masyarakat setempat. Di tengah pendakian, para petugas beroleh kabar ada belasan pendaki yang terjebak kepulan asap.

"Informasi dari pendaki ada 8 org korban yang masih terjebak di atas," kata Sutopo. Sesampainya di lokasi, petugas menemukan salah seorang korban, Eko Nurhadi, Warga Ngawi, 45 tahun, yang mengalami luka bakar 50 persen di sekujur tubuhnya. Petugas juga menemukan korban lain yang sudah tak bernyawa. "Para korban dievakuasi ke RSUD Sayidiman Magetan," kata Sutopo.

Kemudian ada dua korban yang menderita luka berat, yakni Eko Nurhadi (Sekretaris Desa Brangol Kec Karangjati, Ngawi, saat ini dirawat di RSUD dr. Sudono dan Novi Dwi Estiwati warga Jalan Rajawali, Kelurahan Beran, Kabupaten Ngawi. Saat ini, ia dirawat di RSUD Mardi, Solo.

Sebelumnya, para pendaki Gunung Lawu asal Ngawi, ditemukan tewas terbakar di lereng Gunung Lawu antara pos 3 dan 4, pada Minggu 18 Oktober. Mereka diduga terjebak kebakaran hutan di gunung tersebut.

Berikut kronologi musibah tersebut:

1. Pkl 08.00 WIB terlihat kepulan asap di sekitar Pos 3 Cemoro Sewu.

2. Pkl 09.30 WIB Tim gabungan dari Perhutani, Anggota Koramil 0804/02 Plaosan dan masyarakat menuju TKP utk melaksanakan pemadaman.

3. Pkl 13.40 WIB Tim gabungan yg sedang menuju TKP mendapatkan informasi dari pendaki a.n Sdr Mansur Salim, 46 Th, alamat Ds Rowosari Kec Tembalang Kab Semarang Jateng bahwa telah menolong 1 org pendaki tepatnya antara Pos 4 dan Pos 3 a.n Dita Kurniawan 18 Th, pelajar SMK Yosonegoro Magetan, alamat Ds Candirejo Kec/Kab Magetan dan mendapat informasi juga dari pendaki yang telah ditolong bahwa ada 8 org korban yang masih terjebak di atas.

4. Pkl 14.00 WIB, Dita Kurniawan, dibawa turun ke Pos 1 dan menceritakan bahwa pada Sabtu (17-10-2015) telah mendaki melalui jalur Cemoro Kandang bersama 13 org, namun 11 org temannya belum diketahui keberadaanya karena terpisah dalam perjalanan.

5. Pkl 14.20 WIB Tim gabungan menemukan 1 korban a.n Sdr Eko Nurhadi, 45 Th, almt Ngawi dlm keadaan luka bakar 50 % (perut, tangan dan wajah ).

6. Pkl 14.30 WIB Korban dievakuasi ke POS 1 Pemberangkatan, selanjutnya Korban dievakuasi menuju RSUD DR Sayidiman Magetan.

7. Sampai dengan Pkl 18.00 WIB Tim gabungan TNI, Polri, Perhutani, BPBD, AGL ( Anak Gunung Lawu) dibantu Masyarakat Cemoro Sewu dan Singolangu masih melaks penyisiran dan evakuasi.

8. Hasil penyisiran sementara sampai dgn saat ini diperoleh infomasi korban kebakaran hutan yang terjadi diantara Pos 3 dan Pos 4 adalah 8 orang dgn rincian 7 orang meninggal, 2 org dalam kondisi kritis dan masih dalam proses evakuasi..
